More About Karambi Washed
Named after a nearby village, Karambi Washing Station is located on the edge of Lake Kivu. Despite its small size of just 2.5ha, this station processes around 400 tons of coffee cherries each year.
During the harvest season, 60 seasonal workers are employed to manage coffee delivered by 1500 farmers from the surrounding area.
Karambi typically processes cherries in either the classic washed method (depulping, washing, submerged fermentation, final wash, drying) or the natural method (sun-dried on raised beds for 25-40 days).
